Noles Fall to No. 10 SMU

TALLAHASSEE - The No. 21 Florida State volleyball team (20-9, 12-7) fell to No. 10 SMU (24-6, 16-3) in three sets (25-27, 23-25, 21-25) on Wednesday afternoon in front of 692 fans at Tully Gym.

Some great volleyball was on display early in set one as both teams were very efficient on offense. The Noles jumped ahead to a 13-10 lead before SMU stormed back with a 6-1 run to take a two-point lead. SMU extended its lead to 20-17, but FSU rallied with a 6-0 run to capture the momentum and the 23-20 lead. SMU fought back again with four consecutive points for set point, but a kill from Taylor Head and an attack error gave the Noles a set point of their own. Unfortunately, FSU was unable to take advantage as SMU scored the final three points to take the first set. Khori Louis was dominant in the set with seven kills on her first seven swings while also adding four blocks.

Set two was close throughout with no team leading more by three points throughout the entire set. Down 23-20, FSU fought back with back-to-back points to cut it two one, but the Mustangs were able to close it out once again to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

SMU jumped out to an early lead in set three and did not give up the lead until a kill from Audrey Koenig gave the Noles its first lead of the set at 17-16. Much like the previous two sets, FSU was able to capitalize late in the set as SMU took the final set 25-21 to win the match.

Louis led the Noles with 14 kills and five blocks while Taylor added 12 kills.

FSU will close out the regular season on Friday at Wake Forest. First serve is set for noon on ACCNX.
