Four Top-Six Finishes Open Week at Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. – The Florida State swimming and diving team earned four top-six finishes to begin competition at the Auburn Diving Invitational on Wednesday in Auburn, Alabama.
Sophomore Jack Bessire and freshman Hayden Schroeder represented the Seminoles on 1-meter and both the men and women competed in the team events on the first day of the four-day meet at Auburn's James E. Martin Aquatics Center.
Both the men and women registered runner-up finishes in the team event. The men earned a score of 336.65 and the women totaled 330.60 points. The team events consisted of six dives for each team, two on 1-meter, two on 3-meter and one on 10-meter.
In individual competition on 1-meter, Schroeder placed fifth in the finals with a total score of 326.90. He was just ahead of Bessire, who was sixth with 317.60 points.
The duo are two of nine FSU divers, five women and four men, competing this week at the final meet of the 2024 calendar year. The Auburn Invite continues with women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter on Thursday, December 19, and women's 3-meter and men's platform on Friday, December 20. The meet will conclude on Saturday, December 21, with women's platform.
Action begins at 11:30 a.m. ET / 10:30 a.m. CT on December 19 and 20, and at 11 a.m. ET / 10 a.m. CT on December 21. Each event will feature prelims followed by finals.

A total of 51 divers are set to compete in at least one event, a field that features athletes from host-Auburn, George Washington, Tennessee and Utah in addition to Florida State.
