TALLAHASSEE – Florida State swimming and diving student-athletes Samantha Vear, David Vargas and Peter Varjasi captured three of the four ACC Performers of the Week honors on Tuesday, following their performance at the Auburn First Chance Invite at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center from Feb. 9-10.
Vear was named the ACC Women's Diver of the Week for the fifth time in her career after setting the FSU record on 3-meter with a total of 380.13. Vear scored between 6.5-7.5 on all six dives to secure the win. Vear took down the standard that was set back in 2013 by Kelsey Goodman at 373.05.
The Conroe, Texas native also won 1-meter with a personal best score of 323.18.
Vargas won his first ACC Men's Diver of the Week after turning in two victories, winning 3-meter with a score of 372.00 after finishing second on 1-meter (355.50). The Mexico City, native took home the win on platform behind a personal best score 389.05.
"The divers had a great meet," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "They all are taking some huge positives into the postseason, and I really like where we are as a group. They're working hard and it's paying off. I am so proud of Sammy. Setting a school record is just incredible and David put together three great lists."
Varjasi won the 50 free (19.50) and 100 free (42.43) and was the runner-up in the 100 fly (46.07). Varjasi was slightly off his career bests in the 50 (19.23) and 100 free (42.30), however his 100 fly was his best time and now ranks sixth in school history.
"I'm really proud of Peter," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "He's such a versatile swimmer and every time he picks up a new event, he's swimming some of fastest times in program history. He's setting himself up to have a great postseason and I am excited to see how he does at his last ACC's and NCAA's."
The Erlangen, Germany native captured the ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week for the second time in his career.
The No. 16/RV Seminoles will head to the ACC Championships from Feb. 20-24 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
