Vear Adds Silver at Zone B Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – Florida State student-athlete Samantha Vear added to her list for the 2024 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships after placing second on 3-meter at the Zone B Championships at the Jack Bauerle Pool at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.
Vear finished prelims scoring 345.90 behind marks of 6.5 or higher on five of her six dives, placing second. In finals, Vear held steady in second place after adding a total of 350.15 for 696.05.
After qualifying on 1-meter on Sunday after placing third, Vear will compete in both springboard events for her second NCAA's that will run from March 20-23 back at the University of Georgia.
In addition to diving 1-meter and 3-meter at nationals, Vear also met the standard for the U.S. Olympic Trials on 3-meter, which will be held at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center at the University of Tennessee, June 17-24.
"Sammy did a great job again today," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "It was exciting to see her get the Olympic Trials score on 3-meter today. I am very proud of her for achieving that goal. She competed hard is looking good ahead of next week."
In addition to Vear, Kayleigh Clark also dove in the women's 3-meter final after scoring 292.15 for 13th place in prelims. In finals, Clark added 270.75 that included scores of 8.0 on her back 2 ½ somersault pike. She finished 16th at 562.90.
"Kayleigh has been battling injuries all her career and this meet wasn't any different," Proctor added. "She bounced back from 1-meter yesterday and she was right there today. It's so tough to adjust a hurdle at the end of the year and she did it and competed at a high level and I am very proud of her for that. She's going to give it everything tomorrow on platform."
Izzy Gregesen followed in 22nd (277.00) followed by Vivian Johnson in 25th (271.45) and Jessica Buntman in 29th (261.00). Victoria Cervantes took 35th (246.55).
All three Seminoles competing in the men's 1-meter advanced to finals after finishing in the top 18.
Darwin Nolasco led the way with a total of 303.85, sitting in 11th place ahead of David Vargas in 15th (294.15) and Jesco Helling in 17th (290.70).
In finals, Nolasco added 322.00 to his total, remaining in 11th at 625.85. Vargas moved up to place 13th after a round of 309.45 for a score of 603.60. Helling also moved up two spot, finishing 15th at 593.80 after scoring 303.10 in finals.
Prelims for men's 3-meter will start at 11 a.m. and the top seven after finals will advance to NCAA's. On Wednesday, the top 10 on platform will also move on to nationals.
Women's platform prelims will start at 3:15 p.m. and the top seven will head to NCAA's.

Muzito Wins Bronze at African Games
ACCRA, Ghana - Florida State junior Gloria Muzito represented her country at her second meet withing a month by competing at the 13th African Games for Uganda.
On Saturday, Muzito swam the 100-meter free, advancing to finals after clocking 56.96 in prelims to win heat three.
Working from lane three in finals, Muzito established a new personal best, touching at 56.01 lowering her national record.
In February, Muzito competed for Uganda at the World Aquatics Championships where she placed 27th in the 100 free and she also set the national record in the 50 free (26.01)
