EUGENE, Ore. – Florida State jumper Jeremiah Davis had a career day at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials winning gold in the men's long jump at Hayward Field.
Davis earned a season best of 8.20m (26-11) on his third attempt, holding the lead to the finish. Despite earning gold, his bid to Paris for Team USA will have to wait until the World Athletic rankings are finalized.
"I'm so proud of Jeremiah," said Bob Braman. "He never won an NCAA title, so I guess he had to go win in the Olympic Trials. That win should get him to Olympics based upon World Ranking now."
Former Seminole Isaac Grimes finished fifth with a season best at 8.11m (26-5 ½).
FSU alum Trey Cunnigham won his heat in the 110-meter hurdles, tying his season best of 13.12, advancing to the semifinal round. Tyson Williams followed in 26th with a time of 13.58, earning a spot in the semifinals.
Competition will pick up on Thursday, starting with Cunnigham and Williams in the 110-meter hurdles semifinal at 8:01 p.m. ET.
Tyra Wilson will open competition in the women's 400 hurdles at 9:49 p.m. FSU alums Ahmed Muhamed and Kasey Kneevlbaard are set to compete in the men's 5,000 at 11:03 p.m.
