TALLAHASSEE – Florida State men's head golf coach Trey Jones is one of three selected for the 2025 Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame class. It was announced on Wednesday.
Jones will head to Las Vegas to be inducted into the GCAA Hall of Fame on Dec. 9, 2025, at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino along with Mike Cook and Dale Dover.
Entering his 23rd season at FSU, Jones serves as the director of golf for FSU's men's and women's golf programs. The Seminoles have played in 19 consecutive NCAA Regionals and have qualified for the NCAA Championship for the past five seasons.
A three-time ACC Coach of the Year, Jones has led the team to 41 victories, 41 All-America selections, 12 GCAA All-America Scholar selections and eight Palmer Cup alumni.
In the 2024-25 season, Jones led the Seminoles to four tournament victories, including the 2025 NCAA Tallahassee Regional. Luke Clanton won all four tournaments and secured his PGA TOUR CARD following the Valspar Invitational. Clanton was ranked No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings in August of 2024 and was awarded the 2024 Mark H. McCormack Medal.
Clanton became the second Ben Hogan Award winner in program history after John Pak and was a finalist for the Fred Haskins and Jack Nicklaus Awards. Pak also won the Jack Nicklaus Award in 2021 while becoming the sixth player in college golf history to sweep all three 'National Player of the Year' awards.
Tyler Weaver was the ACC runner-up and Cabo Collegiate champion during the 2024-25 season. Following the season, he qualified for the 125th U.S. Open, where he finished fourth among amateurs. Currently, Weaver is ranked 11th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and just took home bronze with Team England at the World Amateur Team Championship.
Jones led the FSU to its first NCAA runner-up finish in 2024. Jones took home ACC Co-Coach of the Year, while Weaver won ACC Freshman of the Year honors.
While at FSU, Jones has coached two athletes selected to the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame, Jonas Blixt (2005-08) and Brooks Koepka (2009-12). Blixt was a part of the 2021 class, after leading FSU to its first-ever ACC Championship in 2007 and earned First Team All-America. He joined the PGA Tour in 2012, tallied three TOUR victories and finished tied for second in his first Masters in 2014.
The following year, Koepka was inducted. A two-time ACC Player of the Year in 2010 and 2012, Koepka started his FSU career as the ACC Rookie of the Year in 2009. He led the 2010 squad to its first appearance in match play at the NCAA Championship, where the Noles tied for third.
Koepka has won five major championships including the U.S. Open in 2017 and 2018, and the PGA Championship in 2018, 2019 and 2023. He became the first pro golfer to hold back-to-back titles in two majors simultaneously.
Jones also coached and welcomed other golfers on TOUR including Daniel Berger, a four-time PGA TOUR winner.
As a sophomore, Berger earned All-ACC honors, was All-America First Team after eight top 10 finishes in 11 starts, including two wins. He was also the runner-up at the NCAA Championship.
In addition to Berger, Jones has coached four others that currently hold a PGA TOUR card, including Clanton, Pak, Cristobal Del Solar, Vincent Norrman and Hank Lebioda.
Jones is dedicated to the academic and athletic success of his student-athletes. Under his leadership, more than 54 players have earned spots on the ACC Academic Honor Roll alongside 16 members of the ACC Academic Golf Team and seven members of the Golf Coaches' Association of America, All-American Scholar team.
As head coach at Georgia State (1995-2003), Jones led the Panthers to seven team victories, including the program's first three conference championships (1998, 2000, 2001 Trans America Athletic), and nine individual medalists, such as 2001 TAAC Champion Allen Thompson. He also led the program to their first NCAA Regional appearance (1999), first NCAA Championship appearance (2000), and highest national ranking (20th in 2000). The three-time TAAC Coach of the Year (1998, 2000, 2001) coached 17 All-TAAC/All-Atlantic Sun honors, including three-time First Team All-TAAC Jack Croyle, three GCAA All-America Scholar honors, and 2003 PING All-Southeast Region selection Ty Harris. Jones had responsibilities that encapsulated the entire Georgia State men's golf program while coaching, including budgeting, public relations, strength and conditioning, scheduling, and recruiting.
In 1980, the GCAA began inducting outstanding men's college golf coaches into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame. Since then, the hall has grown to include more than 160 members. To be selected to the Hall of Fame, a coach must be nominated by their peers and then selected by the GCAA Hall of Fame Committee. Selection criteria not only include a coach's record on the golf course, but also their contributions to the game, student-athletes, and school.
