Facing a 10-point deficit, the Seminoles opened the second with a 10-1 run, holding North Carolina without a field goal for the first 4:30. Gordon and Timpson led the charge, each contributing five points during the stretch. The Noles, holding on to a 19-5 run, entered halftime with a 31-27 advantage over the Tar Heels.
After a quarter of back-and-forth scoring, North Carolina gained an edge early in the third, leaving the Seminoles down 46-42.
With strong defense and key blocks by Timpson, the Seminoles battled back to tie the game at 48 after Timpson drew a foul and hit a layup. As the teams exchanged baskets, Florida State continued to apply pressure on North Carolina's offense. Latson tied it up twice with layups with under two minutes remaining.
