TALLAHASSEE – Michael Fly, who has helped the Florida State men's basketball team attract the nation's No. 1 recruiting class, has been promoted to general manager on head coach Luke Loucks' staff. Fly will maintain his assistant coach title and responsibilities. His role will be expanded as Loucks continues to grow the program in his first season.
Fly was Loucks' first coaching hire in March of 2025 when Loucks accepted the head coaching position at his alma mater. Fly came to Florida State after serving as the associate head coach at Jacksonville University from 2023 to 2025.
"We are thrilled to announce Michael Fly as our General Manager, while maintaining assistant coaching responsibilities," said Loucks. "Michael Fly has a 20 year history of recruiting and roster building experience, helping elite coaches like Andy Enfield and Dennis Gates build championship level teams.
"While interviewing other GM candidates, Fly was taking care of the majority of the future responsibilities internally. He has a strong ability to build authentic relationships and will be a huge asset to me and our staff in areas of recruiting, roster building, agent relationships, cap management, and NIL management. In a college athletics landscape that continues to evolve, Fly has the ability to navigate and build strategic relationships that can assist Florida State Basketball in our pursuit of sustained success."
Fly was the head coach at Florida Gulf Coast from 2018-22 after serving as the assistant coach for seven years at FGCU. He was part of FGCU's Sweet 16 run in 2013 and was part of two NCAA Tournament appearances in 2016 and 2017. Fly contributed to nearly 190 wins, three NCAA Tournament victories, three Atlantic Sun Tournament titles, six ASUN Tournament Finals appearances, three ASUN Regular Season Championships, two NIT berths, and a CIT appearance during his time with the Eagles.
Fly graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2004 and began his coaching career at Georgetown College. He was a video coordinator assistant with the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA and served on Leonard Hamilton's staff as the video coordinator for three seasons. Fly was also the director of analytics and scouting at Missouri in 2023.
