COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Florida State swimming and diving teams fell to South Carolina in a dual meet on Friday at the Carolina Natatorium.
The men (1-1), who are receiving votes in the CSCAA National Rankings, were outscored 163.50-136.50 in a hard-fought contest with the Gamecocks (2-1). The women (3-1) dropped the contest to No. 20 South Carolina (2-1), 225-75.
"Tough loss today against a good SEC opponent," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "Their women's team is very strong, their men's team is pretty good too. I felt like just losing some key guys there before the meet today really hurt us, but we'll learn from this and come back stronger."
Logan Robinson led the Noles with three individual wins in the 200 free (1:34.60), 200 fly (1:44.93), and 100 fly (46.28). In the 200 fly, Aidan Villars (1:46.49) and Joey Coleman (1:46.95) followed Robinson in a 1-2-3 finish. Robinson also led off the winning 400 free relay team (2:53.68) which included Gustav Østerberg, Levi Mozsarik, and Andrew Rich.
Mozsarik tied for the top spot in the 50 free (20.08). Rich placed second in the 100 free and the 100 back, with his 100 free time of 44.27 just shy of the winning time of 44.23. Anthony Pineiro was the runner-up in a tight 200 back, clocking in at 1:44.63.
For the women, Amelia Marek won the 100 breast (1:01.45), with Martina Fanunza coming in a close second (1:01.46) for a 1-2 finish. The 400 free relay team (1:38.04) of Alice Velden, Fanunza, Pauline Zeller, and Maryn McDade also notched a win.
Next, the Noles will compete in the Georgia Invite which will run Nov. 19-22 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium. The next FSU home meet will be on Jan. 5 vs. Villanova.
