Williams Sinks 23 Points, Leads All Scorers at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Florida State women's basketball team (7-15, 2-8 ACC) fell to Clemson (16-7, 7-4 ACC) by a final score of 77-58 on Sunday afternoon at Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson, South Carolina.
 
Junior guard Sole Williams led all scorers with 23 points, shooting a strong 50 percent from the field, converting 9-of-18. She would also add four rebounds and two assists.
 
Sophomore guard Tatum Greene led the effort off the glass with a team-high nine rebounds. Greene would record seven points as well as an assist.
 
Williams highlighted the first quarter offensive effort with 10 points after going a perfect 4-of-4 from the field, including two triples. She would get the Seminoles on the scoreboard with a layup followed by a second-chance basket by junior forward Avery Treadwell in the same minute. Three-pointers on back-to-back possessions by Greene and Williams in the final two minutes kept the Seminoles hot on the heels of the Tigers, trailing 21-15 at the end of the first quarter.
 
Freshman guard Mari Gerton made an early appearance in the second quarter with a second-chance basket early. Senior guard Amaya Bonner also got herself on the board with a timely tip-in as Williams continued to drive the lane as 10 of the FSU's points in the second quarter came from the paint. Florida State trailed 42-27 going into halftime. 
 
Williams contributed to more than half of Florida State's total points with a team-leading 14 at the half. Greene contributed five rebounds while three Seminoles pulled down three boards each. 
 
Four more points came for Williams in the opening two minutes of the third quarter while Greene added another three-pointer. Shavers managed her first field goal of the game at 6:37 and went a perfect 3-of-3 at the stripe throughout the frame.  The Tigers maintained their lead 60-41 going into the fourth.
 
Davis attacked the paint early in the final quarter, putting up four points and pulling down three boards in just over two minutes. Junior guard Emma Risch added her lone triple of the contest in the final two minutes, extending her streak to four consecutive games with at least one three-pointer made. Clemson continued to pressure and Florida State would ultimately fall 77-58.
 
Florida State will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina for a meeting with NC State on Thursday, Feb. 5. The game will air on the ACC Network at 8 p.m.
