Florida State Advances to Third Round of ACC Championship

CARY, N.C. – The No. 12-seeded Florida State men's tennis team (14-14) upset 5th-seeded NC State (16-8) by a final score of 4-3 in an early morning match to advance to the third round of the ACC tournament.
The day started on a positive note as Jan Sebesta and Erik Schiessl secured a 6-2 victory over NC State's Cody Benton and Ainius Sabaliauskas. The doubles point came down to the wire on courts two and three, both tied at 5-5, but Gabor Hornung and Luis Felipe Miguel battled through to claim a hard fought 7-5 win on court three against Charlie Camus and Martin Borisiouk.
The Wolfpack struck first in singles as No. 117 Corey Craig fell in straight sets to Jules Leroux. Court two was next to finish after Azariah Rusher fell to Sabaliauskas. The Wolfpack continued to build on its momentum, pushing their lead to 3-1 after securing a win at the top of the lineup over Miguel in a three-set battle.
Florida State found themselves up on the last three courts on each of the three sets, before Mohammad Alkotop eventually gave FSU its second point of the day after defeating Camus on court five.
Schiessl notched his fifth ACC victory after defeating William Manning in another three-set matchup on court three, before attention turned towards freshman Hornung on court six.
The Hungarian native won the first set, before finding himself in a 6-3 deficit in the second set. Hornung's third-set 7-5 clincher secured the 4-3 thriller win for the Seminoles.
