Five Seminoles Recognized on All-ACC Academic Team

TALLAHASSEE – Five Florida State men's tennis student-athletes were named to the All-ACC Academic Team Friday.
Mohammad Alkotop, Justin Lyons and Luis Felipe Miguel all earned their first All-ACC Academic Team selections, while Corey Craig and Erik Schiessl secured their second consecutive selection to the team.
To qualify for the All-ACC Academic Team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade-point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average throughout their academic career. Additionally, they must compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
Craig, capping off an excellent career at FSU, earned his second All-ACC Academic Team honor. Craig earned 10 singles victories and helped the Seminoles past Louisville in the opening round of the ACC Championship with a win against the Cardinals' Cristian Matei OnoFrei on court two. The Florida native was recently announced as the ITA Southeast Region Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship honoree.
Schiessl earned his second academic honor of the season, having been named to the CSC Academic All-District team in May for the second time of his career. The Germany native tied for the second most singles wins this season with 13, recording five individual wins during conference play.
Miguel concluded his collegiate career at Florida State and earned his first academic honor in the ACC. Miguel qualified for his first NCAA National Championship after claiming the co-champion title in singles action and pairing with Schiessl in doubles action at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship in Gainesville during the fall season.
Lyons captured his second academic honor after being named to the CSC All-District team earlier in the year. Lyons ascended in his third season with a career-high 14 wins in singles play. The junior notched five ACC singles victories and helped the Seminoles down Louisville at the ACC Championship to advance into the quarterfinal.
Alkotop completed his first season with Florida State with a 16-11 overall record and his first academic recognition of his career. Alkotop was named the Bedford Cup Doubles Champion alongside teammate Azariah Rusher, before tallying a doubles record together of 10-6 during the spring. The junior saw a win streak of five straight singles victories to start his spring campaign.
