2023 UCA Small D1 Co-Ed National Champions

Welcome to the official home of the Florida State Cheerleading!
View information about our squads, upcoming clinics, and tryouts for Garnet Cheer Squad, Gold Cheer Squad, and the Cimarron Mascot program.
GARNET & GOLD SQUADS OVERVIEW
Garnet (stunt partners) and Gold (multi-base team) Squads are utilized for sideline cheerleading for all regular season home/away football games. Both cheer squads get split into smaller groups and split all home Volleyball, Men’s basketball, and Women’s basketball games throughout the season. Selection of these members will be at the coach’s discretion based on tryout performance each year.
CIMARRON MASCOT PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Cimarron does not make appearances at Football games. All other sports are assigned respectively to specific members for ease of scheduling, as well as continuity of character throughout that season’s duration. Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Baseball and Olympic Sports respectively receive a devoted mascot. Members are also responsible for handling throughout the year for one other sport as well. All private and request events outside of sporting events are assigned on a volunteer basis. Interested in joining our mascot program? Learn more here.
ACADEMICS
Students must be enrolled in and pass at least 12 hours per semester with a minimum 2.0 GPA.
Students are allowed one ‘grace’ semester under a 2.0 GPA (still a member of the team, but scholarships withheld), but will be removed from the team if there are two semesters below 2.0 GPA.
UNIFORMS & APPAREL
Uniforms are provided and returned at the end of each year to be reissued each fall. Sponsored athletic practice attire, shoes, and bags are also awarded each fall and capable of being kept by each student upon completion of the year.
TRAVEL
Majority of football and basketball travel will be via chartered bus. However, students are required to return to campus at the beginning of the Fall season and during Fall, Winter, and Spring breaks for regular season games at their own personal cost.
2023-24 TRYOUT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are there certain cheer skills that I must have to be able to do at tryout?
A standing back is a definite requirement. We suggest that all participants have at least a round off back handspring layout. If you are a top, you will try out for both teams and we will determine where we will utilize you. If you are trying out for all girl and can do multiple stunting positions, we will ask to see those and then determine where we want you throughout the process. For stunting we require that you know how to do all the basics such as extension, lib and stretch. During final cuts we will get into more elite skills such as rewinds and full ups.
