McGuire spent the previous 14 years at Louisiana Tech, including his final four years as the associate athletic director for strategic communications and digital strategy. In addition to his responsibilities overseeing the Bulldogs' communications strategies, McGuire also served as the sport administrator for women's tennis and was a member of the department's senior staff.
He began his time at Louisiana Tech in 2012 and was promoted to assistant athletic director in 2020. Throughout his time in Ruston, McGuire was the primary media contact for men's basketball, while also working with soccer, tennis, football, volleyball and golf during different points of his career. His responsibilities with football included press conferences, game notes, overseeing the production of the football yearbooks and game day programs as well overseeing the press box for home games.
He has promoted 14 all-conference men's basketball honorees, including Raheem Appleby (three-time all-conference), Kenneth `Speedy' Smith (2015 CUSA Player of the Year and AP All-America Honorable Mention), Alex Hamilton (2016 CUSA Player of the Year and AP All-America Honorable Mention), Erik McCree (two-time all-CUSA), Jacobi Boykins (two-time all-CUSA), Kenneth Lofton Jr. (2021 CUSA Freshman of the Year and two-time all-CUSA), Isaiah Crawford (2024 CUSA Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year), and Daniel Batcho (2025 CUSA Defensive Player of the Year and two-time all-CUSA). He also helped publicize 10 all-conference soccer players including Kathryn Sloan, who was a two-time Louisiana Player of the Year and the first student-athlete in LA Tech history to receive the prestigious honor of CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year in 2016.
McGuire also worked closely with women's tennis head coach Amy Sargeant, who was named the 2025 CUSA Coach of the Year following a 19-win season, the third-most victories in program history, while leading the Bulldogs to their first appearance in the CUSA Championship match. He also worked with former head coaches Amanda Stone (current head coach at the University of North Texas) who became the all-time winningest coach in program history and was named the 2023 CUSA Coach of the Year and ITA Southern Region Coach of the Year, Chad Camper (current head coach at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga) who was a two-time Louisiana Coach of the Year, and Freddy Gomez.
He has won 20 awards at the annual Louisiana Sports Writers Association SID contest. Nine of the awards have come in the Best Release category, including five first-place finishes. He also placed fourth in the 2021-22 U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Best Writing Contest for the moderate-length feature category.
He served as the chairman of the NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) and website redesign committee and was the media coordinator for the 2021 NCAA Ruston Regional while serving on the Karl Malone Award committee which chooses the nation's top collegiate power forward.
McGuire is a 2006 graduate of Louisiana Tech with a bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in English. He and his wife, Kari, have two sons, Colin and Owen.
