Alex Wendler joined Florida State in 2023 as an assistant football athletic trainer and was promoted to head football athletic trainer in June 2026. In his current role, he oversees and directs all sports medicine operations for the Seminole football program. In addition to his work with football, Wendler serves as an adjunct professor in Florida State’s undergraduate athletic training program.

Wendler arrived at Florida State following two seasons as an assistant athletic trainer at Eastern Michigan University, where he worked with the football and women’s tennis programs. Prior to that, he served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Northern Illinois University, working with football and women’s track and field. He began his career as an undergraduate student athletic trainer at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, where he worked for three years. Wendler also gained professional experience as a preseason athletic training intern with the Baltimore Ravens in the summer of 2018.

A native of Madison, Wisconsin, Wendler earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse in 2019 and his master’s degree in sport management from Northern Illinois University in 2021.

Wendler holds a Florida athletic training licensure, is certified by the Board of Certification (BOC) and is certified in CPR/AED/First Aid. Additionally, Wendler holds advanced certifications in dry needling, blood flow restriction therapy, IV access and administration, and Graston technique.
