In his role as Depute Athletics Director at Florida State, Douglas Walker serves as a senior external affairs and strategy leader with oversight of communications, brand, content, and distribution across the department’s external operations.
Operating at the executive level, Walker advises leadership on institutional positioning, narrative strategy, and high-impact communications, with a focus on aligning external functions to support competitive success, revenue growth, and long-term brand equity. His role sits at the intersection of athletics performance, media strategy, and organizational alignment to ensure Florida State’s external voice is intentional, proactive, and fully integrated.
Walker brings a distinctive background shaped by leadership roles at the University of Alabama, University of Notre Dame, University of Miami, Texas A&M University, and Texas Christian University. His experience across the SEC, ACC, and national landscapes provides deep insight into the structural, political, and media dynamics that define modern college athletics.
At Florida State, Walker has led transformational initiatives that extend beyond traditional communications. He architected the launch of “Seminoles Unconquered” as a scalable owned-media platform, restructured and aligned previously siloed external units into a unified operating model, and played a central role in a major multimedia rights transition that expanded distribution and strengthened external partnerships. He also helped reestablish in-house broadcast capabilities, integrating production with academic pathways to build long-term institutional capacity.
Walker is recognized for a builder’s mindset; creating systems, platforms, and alignment that position programs for sustained success. His work reflects a broader view of external affairs as a strategic driver of perception, access, and enterprise value for the FSU Athletics Department.
