Gerald Gillion

Gerald Gillion enters his second season as an assistant coach with the Florida State men's basketball program, bringing more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience and a proven track record of recruiting, player development, and program building to the Seminoles.

In his first season in Tallahassee, Gillion helped Florida State to an 18-15 record and a 10-8 mark in ACC play. The Seminoles gained momentum throughout the 2025-26 season, winning seven of their final eight games and 10 of their final 12 contests, highlighted by a school-record five consecutive ACC road victories, before narrowly falling 80-79 to No. 1-ranked Duke in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

Gillion also played an important role in the development of two of Florida State's top performers. Robert McCray V earned All-ACC Third Team honors as selected by the league's coaches, while Lajae Jones was selected by the Golden State Warriors with the 54th overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft.

Prior to arriving at Florida State, Gillion served as associate head coach at Long Island during the 2024-25 season. Before that, he was the head men's basketball coach at Chicago State from 2021-24, where he played a key role in reshaping the program.

Before his tenure at Chicago State, Gillion spent the 2020-21 season at Samford University, where he was credited with recruiting one of the most talented signing classes in program history. He also served as an assistant coach at Tennessee Tech from 2017-19 and as special assistant to the head coach at South Florida from 2014-17.

Gillion's collegiate coaching career began as director of basketball operations at Florida International during the 2013-14 season after spending five seasons as head coach at Northeast High School from 2008-13.

A Florida State alumnus, Gillion earned his bachelor's degree in social science from FSU in 2008 before embarking on a coaching career that has taken him through every level of the game. He returned to his alma mater in 2025 to help Luke Loucks build the next chapter of Seminole basketball.
