Jim Moran

Associate Head Coach

Jim Moran enters his second season as Florida State’s associate head coach, bringing extensive coaching experience and a proven track record of player development to the Seminoles’ program.

In his first season in Tallahassee, Moran helped Florida State to an 18-15 record and a 10-8 mark in ACC play. The Seminoles gained momentum throughout the season, winning seven of their final eight games and 10 of their final 12 contests, highlighted by a school-record five consecutive ACC road victories, before narrowly falling 80-79 to No. 1-ranked Duke in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

Moran also played an important role in the development of two of Florida State's top performers. Robert McCray V earned All-ACC Third Team honors as selected by the league's coaches, while Lajae Jones was selected by the Golden State Warriors with the 54th overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft.

During the 2025-26 season, Moran was recognized by Silver Waves Media as one of the 100 Most Impactful High Major Coaches in college basketball.

Moran brought over a decade of NBA and developmental league coaching experience to the Seminoles' bench.

Most recently, Moran has served as an Assistant Coach for the Sacramento Kings under Head Coach Mike Brown since 2024. Before that, he was the Head Coach of the Rip City Remix (2023–2024), the G League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers. From 2021 to 2023, he worked as an Assistant Coach for the Detroit Pistons under Dwane Casey.

Moran spent a significant portion of his early coaching career with the Portland Trail Blazers, first as an Associate Video Coordinator (2014–2015) and later as an Assistant Coach (2015–2021) under Terry Stotts. He began his coaching journey as a Player Development Coach with the Maine Red Claws during the 2013–2014 season.

Moran played collegiately at William & Mary, while earning his bachelor’s degree in sociology.
