Matt Ayer returned to the Florida State Athletic Department on March 5, 2021, and enters his 24th season with Florida State Athletics in 2025. Ayer is a member of the Facilities and Event Management team and spending the previous two and a half years as an assistant in the FSU Office of Distance Learning.
Ayer began his tenure with athletics in 1999 as the memorabilia coordinator for Coach Bobby Bowden. In 2001, he was elevated to football recruiting assistant and then became assistant director of player personnel for football in 2007. In addition to his recruiting duties, he also managed the advance travel operations for all football away games as well as bowl games. He was in this position until his departure for the Office of Distance Learning in 2018.
Ayer is from Orland, Maine, and received his undergraduate degree in sport management from Springfield College in Massachusetts and his master’s degree also in sport management from Florida State University.
Ayer is married to Carol Moore and has two step-children, Ansley Moore and Brandon Moore.
