Michael Fly enters his second season with the Florida State men’s basketball program as the Seminoles’ general manager and assistant coach, playing a pivotal role in the continued development and growth of the program under head coach Luke Loucks.

Fly was promoted to general manager in September 2025 while maintaining his assistant coach responsibilities, overseeing Florida State’s personnel operations and working closely with the coaching staff in roster construction, recruiting, player evaluation and development. His impact was immediately felt during his first season in Tallahassee, helping the Seminoles to an 18-15 record and a 10-8 mark in ACC play. Florida State gained momentum throughout the 2025-26 season, winning seven of its final eight games and 10 of its final 12 contests, highlighted by a school-record five consecutive ACC road victories, before narrowly falling 80-79 to No. 1-ranked Duke in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

As general manager, Fly has helped build one of the nation’s most talented and highly regarded rosters. Loucks’ first high school recruiting class is ranked as the nation’s No. 11 prep signing class according to 247Sports, while the full class is the consensus No. 2 group in the ACC and ranks No. 16 nationally by 247Sports. Florida State’s five-player transfer class ranks first in the ACC and No. 5 nationally in On3’s Team Transfer Portal Index.

Fly joined Florida State after serving as associate head coach at Jacksonville University from 2023-25. Prior to his time at Jacksonville, Fly served as the Director of Scouting and Analytics at Missouri under head coach Dennis Gates during the 2022-23 season.

He spent more than a decade at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he served as an assistant coach for seven seasons before being promoted to head coach in 2018, a position he held through 2022. During his tenure with the Eagles, Fly helped lead the program to nearly 190 victories, three NCAA Tournament wins, three Atlantic Sun Tournament championships, six ASUN Tournament Finals appearances, three ASUN Regular Season Championships, two NIT appearances and one CIT appearance. He was also part of FGCU’s historic Sweet Sixteen run, which helped establish the program as a national name in college basketball.

Fly began his coaching career at Georgetown College after graduating from the University of Kentucky in 2004. He later gained professional experience as a video coordinator assistant with the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA and served three seasons on Leonard Hamilton’s staff at Florida State as the program’s video coordinator.

Throughout his career, Fly has been recognized for his leadership, player development, and innovative approach to the game. In 2026, Fly was named to the Silver Waves Media list of the 100 Most Impactful High Major Coaches. He was also selected to participate in the prestigious 2025 TopConnect Basketball Symposium, which identifies top assistant coaches in the country and provides leadership development and networking opportunities with athletic directors nationwide.
