Rob Wilson is in his 18th year as Associate Director of Athletics for Communications and his 38th as a member of the Florida State athletics staff in 2025-26.
He was promoted to his current role after serving for 12 years as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Media and Public Relations. Wilson began his time with Florida State athletics in 1987, when he was hired as the primary contact for the Seminoles' men's basketball program. He held that position until 1994 when he was promoted to sports information director.
In his current role, Wilson plays a pivotal role in the strategic communications plan for management issues and crisis communication situations affecting the department, its coaches and FSU's student-athletes. Wilson is part of the FSU Hall of Fame committee and manages Florida State's historical archives. Additionally, he is responsible for creating content on the new Seminoles Unconquered app and has launched multiple conversation series with former FSU student-athletes, coaches and administrators.
The Florida State Sports Information Office won over 40 national awards during Wilson’s tenure for excellence in its publications, including the football and basketball media guides earning Best in the Nation distinction on three occasions. The 2004 men’s basketball media guide and its cover were both named Best in the Nation. Most recently, the 2006 men's basketball media guide was judged as the second-best in the nation.
He received the 2001 Scoop Hudgens Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of outstanding performance in the field of sports information and sports journalism. Born in San Diego, California, Wilson graduated from Niceville High School in Niceville, Florida, and was a wide receiver at Ole Miss in 1979.
Wilson earned his bachelor's degree in communications from Florida State in 1983. He and his wife, Sherrill, have two grown sons, Preston and Parker.
