Steven McCartney was promoted to public relations director in the Florida State athletics department in the summer of 2024. He is in his 12th season with the Seminoles in 2025-26 and works directly with FSU's football program.
He previously spent eight seasons working as the primary public relations contact for baseball in addition to his football responsibilities. In that time, the Seminoles played in six NCAA baseball tournaments, five bowl games and won three ACC Championships (2017 & 2018 baseball, 2023 football).
McCartney oversaw media opportunities for the Seminoles as the baseball team reached the College World Series in 2017, 2019 and 2024. In 2019, the eyes of the college baseball world were on head coach Mike Martin, the winningest coach in college baseball history, as he led the Seminoles to the College World Series during his 40th and final season. McCartney also worked with Mat Nelson, the 2021 Perfect Game Player of the Year, and Parker Messick, the ACC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year in 2021.
McCartney started his time in the FSU public relations department as an intern in 2014. From 2014-16, he worked with the men’s and women’s tennis teams, with both programs reaching the NCAA Tournament.
A native of Tallahassee, McCartney earned his bachelor's degree in radio and television from the University of Central Florida in 2011 and completed his master's degree in sport management from Florida State in 2014. He is married to Ashley and the couple has two children, Mila and Riley.
