Toafili, from St. Petersburg, set career highs with 12 rushes and 99 yards, while scoring his first career touchdown. For the season, he ranks 11th nationally and leads all Power 5 freshman rushers with 8.15 yards per carry. His 163 yards on the ground lead Florida State.
Toafili scored on a 13-yard run in the third quarter that gave FSU a lead it would not relinquish, beating the Gamecocks 41-24. Toafili led a Seminole rushing attack that ran for 263 yards, the most for FSU since running for 305 against ULM in 2017.
Toafili’s 99 rushing yards are the most for a Seminole freshman since Cam Akers had 117 against ULM in 2017. Akers is also the last Nole running back to be named the ACC Rookie of the Week.
Florida State is back in action Saturday at No. 5 Notre Dame (NBC, 7:30 p.m.).
