TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State senior Amelia Williamson has been named to the International Team for the 2022 Palmer Cup which will take place July 1-3, at the Golf Club de Geneve, in Vandoeuvres, Switzerland. Named after the late Arnold Palmer, this Ryder Cup-style tournament features the top male and female collegiate golfers, with the United States facing off against an International team.
Williamson’s selection to the 2022 Palmer Cup team marks the third time (Frida Kinhult in 2019 and Beatrice Wallin in 2021) and second consecutive year (Wallin in 2021 and Williamson in 2022) the Seminoles have been represented on the International Team at the Palmer Cup. Kinhult and Seminole assistant coach Robert Duck helped lead the International team to the championship in 2019.
“I am honored to have been selected to play in such a prestigious event,” said Williamson. “Being selected to the Palmer Cup team has been a goal of mine for the past couple of years, and I am proud that my hard work is paying off. I can’t wait to meet my teammates from all over the world and to travel to Switzerland in the summer.”
Williamson is ranked eighth in school history with a career stroke average of 73.84. She earned her first collegiate win earlier this spring when she won the individual championship at the Florida State Match Up at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club. Williamson is currently the highest ranked Florida State player in the collegiate rankings by both Golfstat (No. 26) and Golfweek (No. 23). Williamson is ranked No. 54 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings – and has been ranked as high No. 49 in the world this season.
Florida State is ranked No. 13 by Golfweek following its runner-up finish at the ACC Championship this past weekend. The Seminoles placed second in the stroke play portion of the event and played Wake Forest for the league championship in match play at the ACC Championship at The Reserve at Pawleys Island in South Carolina.
“It is such a prestigious honor for Amelia to be chosen to represent the World Team in the Arnold Palmer Cup,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “Being one of the 12 players chosen on the women’s side is a tribute to the season she has had thus far. I am thrilled for Amelia and cannot wait to follow the action in Switzerland.”
Florida State will be well represented on the International Team by Williamson and Frederik Kjettrup, who stars for the Seminole men’s team. The Seminoles are one of nine golf schools in the nation with at least two players selected to play in the 2022 Palmer Cup field.
