TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – No. 20 Florida State (21-15) plays its second and final non-conference series of the year, hosting Troy (20-19) for a three-game set starting Friday at Dick Howser Stadium. All three games will stream on ACC Network Extra and fans can also listen on the radio in Tallahassee on 100.7 FM or nationwide through Tunein or the FSU Gameday App.
The Seminoles are coming off a series win at Georgia Tech and a Tuesday victory against Stetson. Troy swept Appalachian State last week and shutout Jacksonville State Tuesday night.
The Seminoles will throw the same rotation for the ninth consecutive weekend. Parker Messick, the Atlantic Coast Conference leader in earned run average at 2.41, has won two consecutive starts and is second in the league with 82 strikeouts. The redshirt freshman allowed just three hits over 6.0 innings in FSU’s 9-0 shutout last week at Georgia Tech.
Bryce Hubbart has also won his past two starts and leads the Noles with five victories on the year. Hubbart ranks in the Top 10 in the ACC in ERA, opponent batting average and strikeouts.
Junior Conor Grady, with 23 career starts, closes out the weekend.
At the plate, the Seminoles have hit multiple home runs in four straight games. Catcher Mat Nelson, the national leader in home runs (19) and runs batted in (54), has gone deep in all four games. Robby Martin, Nander De Sedas and Elijah Cabell have each hit two home runs in that span. All four players homered Tuesday against Stetson.
Nelson, Cabell (10), Martin (9) and De Sedas (7) each have a career-high home runs this year. Nelson and Cabell have the most home runs for a pair of teammates in the country. Nelson and Martin, with 42 RBI, have the most RBI for a duo this year.
All-time, Florida State is 19-2 against Troy, including an 18-0 record in Tallahassee. The teams last played in 2018, when FSU swept a three-game series early in the season. FSU has a 10-game winning streak in the series.
