Barnes is one of only two players from the ACC and is one of only three freshmen in the nation named as preseason candidates for the award.

This list will be narrowed down to 10 in mid-February and then five finalists will be selected in March which will be presented to Bob Cousy and the selection committee. The winner of this award will be presented on April 9, 2021.
