Baylor Hires FSU?s McGuyre as Head Coach

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –  ( After two seasons as the Florida State indoor volleyball associate head coach, Ryan McGuyre has been hired to be the ninth head coach at Baylor University, which was announced on Wednesday.

“I’m excited to be at a place that shares the same values and passions that Baylor has,” McGuyre said. “I feel that it’s a place where I can be comfortable, but also in a progressive environment as far as where the athletic department is heading. To be where you can impact student-athletes’ lives through sports in the Christian atmosphere is where I feel I can flourish the most.”

Following his two seasons at FSU and one year at Maryland, he returns to faith-based collegiate coaching after head coaching stints at California Baptist University and Biola University.

McGuyre will take over for Jim Barnes, who completed his 11th season as at the helm helping the Bears to a 14-17 overall record in 2014.

During his two seasons at Florida State, McGuyre helped the Seminoles to a 26-8 record in 2013 and a 30-3 showing in 2014, making an appearance in the NCAA Regional Semifinals in both seasons. The Seminoles were ranked in every AVCA poll throughout this time, peaking at a school and ACC record of No. 3 for three weeks (Oct.27-Nov.17) in the middle of the season.

“I have known Coach McGuyre and his family for a long time,” FSU head coach Chris Poole said. “I am obviously very proud that he is getting this opportunity.  It is well deserved and he is a tremendous coach.  Our program has been very successful over the last six years and with success brings universities looking at our staff.  I believe that part of my job is to help mentor young coaches and hope they have an opportunity to run their own programs in the future.  Our philosophies were very similar and it made this season a lot of fun.  He will be missed and Baylor is lucky to have a great Christian family joining their staff.  I am certain he will be very successful and will provide a great role model for their volleyball program.”
