TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State beach volleyball’s pairing of Torrey Van Winden and Keara Rutz were named Volleyball Magazine First Team All-American and Alaina Chacon and Maddie Anderson were named Second Team All-Americans.
Torrey Van Winden and Keara Rutz combined to go 31-7 together in 2021 and were named AVCA Second Team All-Americans earlier this month. The 31 wins in one season are the sixth most wins for a pair in a season in FSU history, it also moved them into 10th all-time for most wins in a career as a pair at Florida State. The duo went 27-3 on court two and 4-4 on court one.
They were named the AVCA National Pair of the Week and the CCSA Pair of the Week on March 9 after going 5-0 that weekend with ranked wins over No. 1 LSU, No. 11 FAU and No. 19 Georgia State, all on court two. Rutz and Van Winden started off the season by winning 16 straight matches on court two, including top-10 wins over No. 8 LMU, No. 6 Cal Poly, No. 1 LSU, No. 10 TCU and No. 3 LSU. Throughout the season the pairing earned 21 ranked wins, as they also defeated No. 1 USC and No. 4 UCLA twice.
Alaina Chacon and Cassie Anderson combined to go 5-2 this season as they started playing together during the last match of the regular season. Chacon and Anderson went 4-0 during the CCSA Tournament all on court two with a pair of wins over No. 4 LSU. They were named the CCSA Pair of the Tournament. Chacon and Anderson were elevated to court one for the NCAA Tournament.
Chacon was named an AVCA Second Team All-American after going 25-13 on the season with an 18-12 record on court one and a 7-1 record on court two. Anderson was named to the CCSA All-Freshman Team after going 32-6 on the season with a 25-4 record on court three, a 6-0 record on court two, a 1-0 record on court four and an 0-2 record on court one.
