TALLAHASSEE — The Florida State beach volleyball team splits up one final time for the penultimate weekend of its fall schedule. Two Seminole pairs will represent Florida State at the AVCA Beach Pairs National Championships in Huntsville, Alabama. At the same time, the remaining team members travel to Jacksonville to compete in the University of North Florida Fall Invitational.
The fourth annual AVCA Pairs National Championship will feature 64 pairs representing Division I and Division II programs. Competitors earned bids based on their performances during the previous spring season or by placing first through third at one of the AVCA's qualifying events this fall. Freshman twins, Addison and Avery Junk, enter the competition ranked No. 10, while Gella Andrew and Saofe´ Duval are ranked No. 13. The championship will follow a single-elimination format beginning Friday, Nov. 6. Following their opening matches, teams will compete in additional placement matches as needed to determine their final finishes.
Andrew and Duval will open against No. 52 UAB at 9:15 a.m., while the Junk sisters begin their tournament against No. 55 Eastern Kentucky at 10:15 a.m. Florida State has yet to claim an AVCA Pairs National Championship title and will look to make program history this weekend.
In Jacksonville, the remaining members of the Sandy Noles will take on in-state opponent North Florida at the UNF Fall Invitational. Florida State holds a 9-0 all-time record against the Ospreys, including a 3-0 victory during the Seminole Beach Bash in February. The Seminoles will use the weekend to continue developing their pairings, refine match strategies, and build chemistry as they prepare for the upcoming spring season.
