TALLAHASSEE, Florida – For the second straight game, Florida State (7-3) dropped an offensive slugfest to FGCU (10-1), falling 11-10 in front of 5,038 fans at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles had 16 hits in the contest – including three from McGwire Holbrook, making his FSU debut – but a ninth-inning home run for the Eagles broke a 10-10 tie and proved to be the winning run.
Holbrook, a transfer from West Virginia, saw just 10 pitches over his five at-bats, finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI single and a two-run double. Colton Vincent extended his hitting streak to 14 games with two hits, and Treyton Rank had a pair of singles from the leadoff spot. Vincent and Rank both singled in the ninth inning, but LJ McDonough earned his second save of the weekend by forcing a fielder’s choice to end the contest.
Edrick Felix hit two solo home runs for the Eagles, including in the ninth-inning against Ryan Denison (0-1). Denison pitched a career-high 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs. Connor O’Hara got the win for FGCU with a scoreless eighth inning.
