Jacksonville, Fla. – The No.14 Florida State men’s track and field team opened competition at the 2023 NCAA East Regional at Hodges Stadium on the campus of UNF.
Jeremiah Davis is the first to punch his ticket to the 2023 NCAA Track and Field Championships after he placed third in the men’s long jump at 7.75m on his first attempt.
Davis, who was the 2022 national runner-up in the event, finished the 2023 indoor season by taking bronze in the event at 8.37m.
Davis was joined by freshman Curtis Williams, who followed in 15th at 7.45m in his first NCAA regionals.
The Seminoles had six student-athletes advance to the quarterfinals after the first rounds of competition on Wednesday. The top 12 in each event on Friday will punch their tickets to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, which are scheduled for June 7-10.
Amir Willis and Taylor Banks advanced to the quarterfinal of the men’s 100m dash, which is scheduled for Friday at 6:35 p.m. Willis ran a season-best of 10.06 for fourth place and Banks followed in sixth at 10.08, which was his personal best.
DaeQwan Butler finished 14th at 46.36 in the men’s 400m and James Rivera took 12th in the 400m hurdles at 50.97. Butler will compete again on Friday at 6:50 p.m. and Rivera is scheduled for 7:25 p.m. Both Butler and Rivera qualified automatically from the heats.
Florida State had three in the men’s 200m, led by Willis, who came back after his 100m and posted a personal best in the 200m at 20.25 for eighth and Ismael Kone crossed the line in 11th at 20.30, which was his career-best time.
Denzell Feagin added his best, crossing the line with a time of 20.73, placing 24th.
The women will compete on Thursday, starting at 1:30 p.m. with Stella Weinberg in the javelin.
