TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State senior Petra Hule has been selected as the No. 3 seed in the singles championship, while Hule and sophomore Anna Arkadianou have been chosen to play in the doubles championship of the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship. Hule’s No. 3 seed is the highest in school history in the NCAA Singles Championship.

The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois, after the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 20-22.

The Seminoles were selected on Monday to play in the team championship and will face Florida Atlantic on Saturday at 11:00 am in the Gainesville Regional at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex at the University of Florida. The winner of Saturday’s match between the Seminoles and the Panthers will face the winner of Saturday’s match between Florida and South Alabama on Sunday at 1:00 pm.

Hule, who owns an incredible 21-1 record in singles this spring, is seeded third in the singles competition. She enters the NCAA team championships having won nine consecutive singles matches, in a streak that began on March 20 with a victory over Elizabet Danailova of Virginia Tech. Hule has a 4-1 record against the players seeded in the top 16 of the championship.

In earning the no. 3 seed in the NCAA singles championship, Hule has earned the highest ranking by a Florida State player in the history of the championship. Her current ITA ranking of No. 4 is the highest ever achieved by a Seminole player.

Hule and Arkadianou, who are currently ranked No. 17 in the ITA doubles rankings, were chosen as an at-large selection for the doubles competition. The pair holds a 9-6 record in doubles play this spring, with victories that include a win over the No. 1 ranked and No. 2 seeded doubles team of Elizabeth Scotty and Fiona Crawley of North Carolina in the ACC Championship on April 22.

“It’s an incredible honor to compete in the individual NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships,” said Seminole Head Coach Jen Hyde. “Petra (in singles and doubles) and Anna (in doubles) have positioned themselves to be among the elite of college tennis. Petra being a top 3 seed in the singles is an incredible accomplishment and the highest seed in our programs history. Anna and Petra’s stellar late season play has propelled them upwards in every ranking period, and they look forward to finishing strong in the doubles championships. We have a lot of work to do before that, but it will be a great way to cap off the season.”
