Jeff Ledbetter’s senior season in 1982 was one for the record books. Nicknamed “Treetops” for his blasts over the right field fence, Ledbetter hit an NCAA record 42 home runs and 273 total bases. He also held the record at the time for home runs in a game with four. However, he did not have just the one great season as he also set NCAA records for home runs in a career (97), career RBI (346) and career total bases (346). Ledbetter finished the 1982 season by being named All-Metro, All-Metro Tournament, Metro Player of the Year, All-American, and Sporting News Player of the Year. Drafted in the first round by the Boston Red Sox, Jeff spent three years with the organization.
