Knuth, Caffrey Earn Preseason All-ACC Honors; Volleyball Picked To Finish Second In ACC

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — For the fourth time in the last five seasons, Florida State Volleyball has been picked to finish second in the Atlantic Coast Conference, as voted on by the 15 ACC head coaches, as announced by the league on Friday. The Seminoles received two first-place votes and 174 points, which trailed 2018 ACC Champion Pitt, which garnered 195 points and 13 first-place votes.

Following a pair of AVCA All-American Honorable Mention seasons a year ago, junior Taryn Knuth and senior Payton Caffrey are recognized on the 18-member 2019 Preseason All-ACC Team. It is the second year in a row that both Knuth and Caffrey have earned preseason accolades from the conference.

“We know that both Taryn and Payton are going to be important in our lineup this year, based on their experience and how well they have played,” said FSU head coach Chris Poole. “However, we do feel as though we are more balanced, more experienced and have more depth than we have had in the last few years, so we are excited about that part.

“We have finished in the top-two of the conference in eight of the last 10 years, so it is to the point now where the expectations are that we would compete at that level, and it is just a matter of showing it on the court when we start playing.”

The Seminoles open the 2019 season on the road in Chapel Hill, N.C., as UNC is one of the host sites for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. FSU will face No. 8 Wisconsin on August 30, before taking on No. 7 Minnesota on August 31. Both matches will begin at 3:30 p.m. inside Carmichael Arena.

Fans don’t need to wait until the home opener on September 13 to see the Noles in person, as FSU Volleyball is hosting its annual Fan Day and Scrimmage on August 17 in Tully Gym at 1:00 p.m. Admission is free and the team will scrimmage each other, followed by a Volleyball 101 event with Coach Poole, as he teaches about some of the tactics, strategies and nuances of the game of volleyball.

There are still spots available to our Preseason Kickoff Dinner on August 17 at the Champions Club. Tickets can be purchased for $30 through Seminole Boosters at There will be a dinner that begins at 5:00 p.m., as well as a silent auction, with numerous items, events and experiences available to bid on, representing FSU volleyball and other Seminole sports.
