TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –The Atlantic Coast Conference recognized three Florida State track and field athletes as performers of the week, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. Shanice Love earned Women’s Co-Field Performer of the Week, Jo’Vaughn Martin named Men’s Co-Track Performer of the Week and Isaac Grimes as Men’s Field Performer of the Week.
Love shares Women’s Performer of the Week honors with Jill Shippee of North Carolina. The Kingston, Jamaica native discus throw of 59.82m (196-3) at the North Florida Invitational leads the ACC and ranks third in the nation. Her first-place throw ranked ahead of Olympian Shadae Lawrence and 31 other throwers in the talented field.
For the second time this outdoor season, Martin earns Performer of the week honors. An honor in which he shares with Cravont Charleston of NC State who also competed at the UNF Invitational this past weekend. The Houston native made his debut in the 200 meters with a time of 20.22 that ranks fifth nationally. He also anchored the men’s 4x100m relay team to a first-place finish of 39.16 that leads the ACC and currently is tied 11th nationally.
Grimes earns his first outdoor men’s field weekly honor after being recognized multiple times during the indoor season for his incredible performances. The Moreno Valley, California native delivered a long jump of 8.07m (26-5.75) to lead the 25-man field at the North Florida Invitational. Grimes’ mark currently ranks fifth nationally, leads the ACC and stands No. 3 all-time at Florida State.
Love, Martin and Grimes and the rest of the Florida State track and field team now have their eyes set on the ACC Championships taking place in Raleigh, N.C. on May 13th through May 15th.
