M. Basketball Falls to N.C. State, 94-66

RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina State’s Terquavion Smith scored a game-high 32 points on ten made field goals and six free throws to lead the Wolfpack in a 94-66 victory over Florida State at the PNC Arena. Smith led four Wolfpack teammates in double figures – Smith, D.J. Burns Jr. (15 points), Jarkel Joiner (14 points), and Casey Morsell (10 points) as NC State gain their eighth conference victory of the season. N.C. State holds an 8-4 ACC record.
North Carolina State is notably a team that recognizes home court advantage. Thus far in the season, the Wolfpack hold a 12-1 winning record at the PNC Arena, compared to their 3-3 away game record.
Although Matthew Cleveland was the first to score out of both teams in the first half, it was a slow start for the Seminoles as the Wolfpack came out strong with a 30-4 scoring run over nine minutes. Their biggest lead came with less than five minutes remaining in the half at 44-14.
Before heading into intermission, Florida State scored 13 points compared to N.C. State’s five to head into the second half with a score of 49-27, N.C. State.
Caleb Mills led the Seminoles in the first half with seven points on five made free throws and one field goal. Florida State struggled on 3-pointers, not making a single field goal from beyond the arc until Darin Green Jr. made one on a fast break five minutes into the second half, followed by two more of his own with two minutes remaining in the game.
Cam Corhen led the Seminoles with 16 points and six rebounds. He made seven of his 10 attempted field goals for the night, along with two of three made free throws.
Florida State shot 26-54 (.481) from the field, three-10 (.300) from beyond the arc, and 11-18 (.611) from the three throw line. The Seminoles scored 42 points in the paint and 10 bench points, as they struggled with 13 turnovers which allowed their opponents to score 18 points.
The Seminoles remain on the road to complete the second game of their two away game series against Louisville before returning to the Donald L. Tucker Center on Wednesday, February 8th. Saturday’s game at the KFC YUM! Center in Louisville will tip off at 2pm. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
