Men’s Basketball Falls To Georgia Tech On The Road, 75-61

ATLANTA, Ga. (seminoles.com) – Anthony Polite scored 11 points and Naheem McLeod totaled a career-high 10 points as Florida State lost to Georgia Tech, 75-61, at McCamish Pavilion.  The loss stopped a season-high six-game winning streak – including five consecutive wins in ACC play – for the Seminoles.

Florida State committed 17 turnovers and had five steals, as the Yellow Jackets were able to capitalize, leading the game for just over 25 of the 40 minutes played.

The Seminoles led for a majority of the first half until the under four-minute media timeout in which Georgia Tech led by three, 33-30.  The Yellow Jackets closed the first half on a 19-7 run to take command of the game.

Florida State was down 53-42 at the under 12-minute media timeout in the second half but had an 8-0 run to close its deficit to 57-53. However, that was not enough for the Seminoles, as the Yellow Jackets responded late to secure the win.

Polite shot four of eight from the field (.500 percent) and contributed three triples. He also had a single block and a single steal. In the last three games, Polite is averaging 11.7 points (35 total points scored), shooting .583 from the field (14 of 24), and is shooting .667 from the 3-point line (six of nine).

McLeod, who has started in each of Florida State’s last five games, pulled down seven rebounds, tying his career high. He shot four of six from the field (.667 percent) and two of three from the free throw line (.667 percent).

Led by freshman Jalen Warley with six points, the Seminoles’ bench outscored Georgia Tech’s bench by a 21-16 point margin. Warley shot .500 percent from the field, had four rebounds, and three assists this evening. The freshman is averaging 1.9 assists in the first 19 games of his Florida State career.

The Seminoles shot .410 percent from the field and .410 percent from the 3-point line, which was not enough in comparison to Georgia Tech’s .440 percent shooting from the field. Florida State outrebounded the Yellow Jackets by a 38-31 margin.

Georgia Tech’s Jordan Usher scored a team-high 19 points and totaled eight rebounds, while Michael Devoe contributed 15 points and five total rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.

Florida State will return home this Saturday, January 29 to play Virginia Tech. The game tips off at 3pm ET and can be watch on ABC.
