Florida State Women’s Golf Places 4th At ACC Championship

CLEMMONS, N.C. – Led by freshman individual champion Maria-Garcia
Estrada, the Duke women’s golf team won the Atlantic Coast Conference
Championship by 36 strokes on Sunday at the 6,355-yard, par-72 Salem Glen
Country Club in Clemmons, N.C.
The Blue Devils 54-hole total of of seven-over par 871
(295-286-290) broke the previous tournament record by 19 strokes. Duke was
followed in the team standings by Wake Forest at 905 (310-300-295) and
North Carolina, which finished third with at 918 (319-299-300). Florida
State finished in fourth place with a three-day total of 974 (335-315-324)
and Maryland rounded out the field in fifth place at 1026 (348-349-329).
Estrada became the third-straight freshman to capture the ACC
individual
title as she finished at 1-under-par 215 (76-67-72). She was followed in
the standings by a pair of teammates – Beth Bauer (73-72-72) and Candy
Hanneman (70-74-73) – who tied for second place at one-over 217.
Florida State was led by Kris Tamulis, who finished at 18-over par
234 (77-77-80) and tied for 11th place. Louise Wright took 15th place for
the Lady Seminoles at 23-over, 239 (87-82-80) and Beth McCumber was 18th at
34-over, 250 (88-80-82). Kristen Sanborn, who tied for 19th
(83-88-82-253,) and Alison Zimmer, who placed 22nd (90-86-82-258), rounded
out FSU’s individuals.
The ACC title was the fifth straight for the Blue Devils and the
eighth
in the program’s history.
