The Atlantic Coast Conference and Commissioner John Swofford released the 2003-2004 ACC Academic Honor Roll Tuesday afternoon and 174 student-athletes from Florida State were among the record 1,810 performers that achieved academic excellence last school year. Fourteen more Seminoles earned the academic honor last year than earned the same honor the year before. The Honor Roll is comprised of those student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year.
Twenty-three Florida State football players made the list led by four-time ACC Academic Honor Roll selection David Castillo. Linebacker Allen Augustin was also selected for the second time in his career. Other athletes who are multiple honorees include women’s basketball player Lauren Bradley who has made the honor roll five times, track athlete Patrick Gerberich who is also a five-time selection and tennis’ Christina Denny and baseball’s Aaron Cheesman who both made the list for the fourth time in their careers.
Of the 174 Seminole student-athletes on the 2003-2004 ACC Academic Honor Roll, 87 are first-time honorees. First time honorees include USA Softball National Player of the Year Jessica van der Linden from FSU. This is the 48th year that the ACC has selected student-athletes for the academic honor roll.
