AON/FWAA Names Hudson And McMahon Freshmen All-Americans

New Orleans, LA – Center Ryan McMahon and guard Rodney Hudson continue to be recognized for stellar 2007 seasons. On Tuesday they were each named first team freshman All-Americans by AON Insurance and the Football Writer’s Association of America. The pair of Seminole linemen were the only two players from the same school to be named to the first team on the offensive side of the ball and one of just three pairs of freshmen from the same school to be named to the team.

This is the third freshman All-American honor for McMahon, who is the only first-year center in the FBS to take every snap in 2007. Rivals.com and CollegeFootballNews.com have already named McMahon their top freshman in the nation and the FWAA agrees. The Rome, GA native graded out either first or second seven times in 13 games this season and he was the top lineman in games versus Miami, Maryland and Duke. Three times this season McMahon went an entire game without missing an assignment and he was not flagged for a penalty all year despite being on the field for every single offensive snap. The redshirt freshman allowed just two sacks in 959 plays and recorded 20 knockdowns this year. In a system where a grade of 68% is passing, McMahon graded out at 78% or better seven times in pass blocking this year.

Hudson, who was named All-ACC second team and was also named to two freshmen All-ACC teams, was the Seminoles top offensive lineman in 2007. The true freshman from Mobile, AL started the first game of the season but didn’t fully settle into a starting role until the Alabama game. In his final eight games of the season he graded out either first or second in all of those games. He had the best grade on the team six times (Alabama, Wake, BC, Maryland, Florida and Kentucky). Hudson posted a grade of 80% or better in four of his final eight games including an astonishing grade of 89% versus Florida and an 85% in the Music City Bowl. The right guard, who started at tackle versus Kentucky, missed only five assignments all season, allowed only one sack and he had 14 knockdowns in the last five games. Hudson was not flagged for a penalty all season and he graded out at 80% or better in passing situations seven times in his final eight games.
