Seminole Women’s Golf Team Completes Play At UCF Challenge

SORRENTO, Fla. –
Senior All-American Caroline Westrup finished in a tie for 21st place and the Florida State women’s golf team finished in 17th place as competition in the UCF Challenge at Red Tail Golf Club came to a close on Tuesday. Westrup carded her second sub-par round of the tournament as she finished the event with a one over par total of 217.
UCLA won the team title as the Bruins roared from behind to defeat Arizona State by seven strokes. The Bruins trailed by one stroke after the first two rounds and outshot the Sun Devils by eight strokes in the final round to gain the team win. Stephanie Kono of UCLA won the individual title as she carded a six-under par score of 66 in the final round to take a one stroke victory over Jessica Yadloczky of Florida who had held the individual lead for the first two rounds of the event.
Westrup played well in the first and third rounds of the event as she carded one-under par scores of 71 over the first 18 and third 18 holes of the event. She shot a four-over par 75 in the second round which effectively took her out of a chance to finish in the top 10 of the individual standings.
Sophomore Macarena Silva, who carded a two-under par 70 in the second round, finished with a 76 in the third round and completed the event with a three-over par score of 219. She was one-under par after two rounds and finished at four over par for the event. Silva finished in a tie for 28th place in the individual standings.
Freshman Whitney Wenglasz played well in the third event of her Seminole career. She carded scores of 75 in the first round and 76 in the third round as she finished as the third highest placing Seminole in the event. Junior Lacey Agnew carded three scores in the 70’s while senior Sara Young played her best golf in the third round with a total of 79 and a three round total of 242.
The Seminoles continue their spring schedule as they travel to the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the University of Texas on March 20-22.
