Hall of Fame Class: 1982 (Football)
Fred Pickard led Florida State in rushing for three seasons from 1957-59. His career marks of 339 carries for 1,546 yards set Florida State records. He scored 14 touchdowns, averaged 4.5 yards a carry and played tough defense. In 1959, Pickard was chosen Honorable Mention All-American by both AP and UPI. He holds the distinction of having given FSU fans of the early years two of their greatest moments. He scored the first touchdown ever in the FSU-Florida series in 1959. That same year, he led FSU to a win at Tennessee the school’s first against an SEC team. He would go into coaching after his playing days, eventually becoming head coach at UT-Martin.
