TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Heading on the road to close out the 2019 regular season, No. 5 Florida State (45-8, 16-5 ACC) will travel north to play a three-game series at Syracuse (21-28, 8-13 ACC) on May 3-5. The Seminoles hold a one-game lead in the ACC Atlantic Division over Notre Dame (15-6 in ACC play) and have the chance to secure the division title with two wins over the Orange on the weekend.
“This is the time of the year where you depend on the fight,” said FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “We’re nearing the end of our 56-game regular season, and preparing for conference tournaments and NCAA postseason and with the parity in the sport right now, it is going to be a battle every time out. Looking forward to another focused weekend from the Noles as we close out one portion of the season and prepare for the next.”
Florida State leads the all-time series with Syracuse, 18-2, and the Noles have won each of the last 14 games in the series, including all 12 games since the Orange joined the conference in 2014. This weekend will be the second time that FSU will play on the road at Syracuse, as the Noles swept the Orange by a combined score of 37-18 in 2017.
Setting a single-season school record already with 80 home runs, the Seminoles have been launching HRs out of the park all over the lineup as there are five FSU players that have hit at least 10 home runs so far in the 2019 season. Sydney Sherrill and Cali Harrod are tied for the team lead with 13 HR, while Carsyn Gordon and Dani Morgan each have 11, and Elizabeth Mason has hit 10 home runs.
FSU is tied with Arizona State as the only two teams in the country that have five different players with double-digit home runs on the season.
Florida State is also one of four teams in the country to have three starting pitcher each have an ERA below 2.00 – Meghan King (1.48), Makinzy Herzog (1.82) and Kathryn Sandercock (1.95). The Noles are joined in that category by Alabama, Oklahoma and UCLA.
All three games this weekend will air on ACC Network Extra and links for the broadcast and live stats will be available on the softball schedule page of Seminoles.com.
