All three weekend starters for the Seminoles have earned national recognition already this season – Hubbart was the NCBWA February Pitcher of the Month; Messick was Perfect Game’s Pitcher of the Week for his 13-strikeout game against Samford; and Dunn is the reigning D1Baseball Player of the Week after striking out 14 Wake Forest hitters on Sunday.

Dunn’s 14 strikeouts are the most for an ACC pitcher this season and the most for a Seminole in a true road game since 1997. As a team, Florida State leads the nation with 13.3 strikeouts per nine innings, and all three weekend starters rank in the Top 20 nationally in strikeouts.

Florida State opened ACC play with a series victory against Wake Forest, dropping the opener before sweeping a Sunday doubleheader in 30-degree weather. Hubbart allowed just one run over 5.2 innings to tie the series, while Dunn and Davis Hare combined for 18 strikeouts in the 3-2 rubber match.

The Seminole bats came alive Wednesday against Bethune-Cookman, setting season highs for runs (17), hits (16), home runs (3), walks (12) and hit by pitch (5) in a 17-9 win over the Wildcats. Alex Toral hit a three-run home run and had a two-run double, and he has reached safely in all 16 games this season.

Brock Mathis and James Tibbs also hit home runs Wednesday. Mathis is hitting 9-for-20 (.450) this year, and Tibbs joins Toral and Logan Lacey for the team lead with four home runs.

Lacey and Brett Roberts both scored a career-high three runs against Bethune-Cookman.

NC State enters after losing both games against Notre Dame last weekend. The last time the teams met in Tallahassee, in 2018, FSU won 2-of-3, with both wins coming on walk-off home runs by Steven Wells and Reese Albert. Now in his fifth season, Albert leads FSU with a .370 batting average after reaching base in all four plate appearances Wednesday night.
