TALLAHASSEE – Florida State sophomore left-handed pitcher Parker Messick is the NCBWA Pitcher of the Month, finishing with a 2.30 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 31.1 innings pitched. He allowed just 23 hits and walked one batter over five appearances.
Messick, from Plant City, Florida, was dominant in three games against ranked opponents. Against No. 16 Notre Dame, Messick allowed just two hits and no runs while striking out 11 batters. Against No. 9 Louisville, he struck out 14 batters over 6.2 innings with no runs or walks allowed. Last Friday against No. 7 TCU, Messick again struck out 14 batters in 7.0 innings with two hits.
Dating back to March, Messick has not allowed a run at Dick Howser Stadium in his last 28.2 innings, with 53 strikeouts in that span. His 14 strikeouts against Louisville and TCU tied a career high.
Messick currently leads the country with 116 strikeouts. He is the reigning ACC Rookie and Pitcher of the Year and has won ACC Pitcher of the Week honors four times this season, two more than any other player.
Messick is the second Seminole named the NCBWA Pitcher of the Month this season. Bryce Hubbart was 2-0 without allowing a run in two starts in February.
