Florida State Falls To Florida In Gainesville

Gainesville, Fla.-  Florida's Walter Clayton Jr. scored a game-high 19 points with five assists in leading the Gators to victory 89-68 over Florida State at the Exactech Arena. Clayton Jr. led four Gators in double figure scoring as Florida led the entire way in earning the win on their home court.

"You have to give the Gators a 'thumbs up' for how they were emotionally and mentally prepared for the game," said Florida State Head Coach Leonard Hamilton. "I thought that obviously, they were extremely prepared, they took away our three-point shots early, and they even guarded us at the free throw line. They seemed to have what we call that "magic level."

Cam Corhen totaled  his second career double with a career-high tying 18 points and 10 rebounds. He became the Seminoles' third different leading scorer in the first three games of the season. Jalen Warley also had a stat-building game leading the team in assists (four) and steals (with a career-high five). Jamir Watkins scored 13 points to reach double figure scoring for the second consecutive game.

Corhen enjoyed the most impressive game of his sophomore season as he made seven field goals and four free throws while pulling down a career-high nine offensive rebounds.

"I think we're going to learn an awful lot from this," said Hamilton.

Tyrese Samuel (15 points), Zyon Pullin (15), and Riley Kugel (10) were among the four Gators who scored in double figures. Florida totaled 52 points in the first half.

The Gators came out aggressively and led by an 11-4 margin in the opening five minutes of the first half. Florida continued its momentum as it made 18 of 28 field goals in the first half for a .643 shooting percentage.

Florida State refused to let the hostile environment bother them in the second half as it outscored Florida by a 46-37 margin in the second half.

Senior Cam'Ron Fletcher hit a monumental career milestone as he pulled down his 200th career rebound in the first half. He totaled four rebounds with two steals and nine points.

Warley played an aggressive game as he earned a career-high five steals. His five steals surpassed his previous career high of four steals against both Boston College and Virginia Tech during his sophomore season. He also scored seven points.

Florida State travels to Daytona Beach, Fla to compete in the semifinals of the Sunshine Slam against University of Nevada Las Vegas on Monday November, 20 at 5:30 at the Ocean Center. The game will be televised on the CBSSports Network.
