WHY I WEAR MY NUMBER
Jamir Watkins – I have switched my number this season from No. 2 to No. 1 for my final collegiate season. I wore both No. 0 and No. 1 in high school at Trenton Catholic, No. 0 during my career at VCU, and No. 2 during my first season at Florida State. I think it’s a great looking number. I will also become the first player in my family to earn a college degree and I want to show the younger members of my family that they, too, can earn a college degree.
Jamir Watkins is the eighth player in school history to wear the number 1. Jonathan Isaac helped lead the Seminoles to the NCAA Tournament in his only season at Florida State in 2017. He averaged 12.0 points and 7.8 rebounds in 32 games played in 2017. He was named a Freshman All-American, earned All-American and All-ACC Honorable Mention honors, and was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team with being the No. 6 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic.
WHAT'S IN A NAME
My full name is Jamir Kamal Watkins. My name comes from my mom and from the Bible. Jamir means handsome prince and Kamal means perfection. She has always said that I am her perfect, handsome prince.
MY HOMETOWN
My hometown of Trenton is the capital city of the state of New Jersey; it was also the capital of the United States before Washington, D.C. It’s a metropolitan city, that boarders Philadelphia, which is populated by many great people who are great neighbors.
