Seminoles' Watkins Named ACC Co-Player Of The Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Jamir Watkins, who averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in leading the Seminoles to the championship of the Sunshine Slam, has been named the ACC Co-Player of the Week in a vote by a Blue Ribbon panel and announced by the ACC Office. Watkins was named the MVP of the Sunshine Slam as the Seminoles defeated UNLV and No. 18 Colorado to win the championship of the tournament.
The honor for Watkins marks the first time he has been named the ACC Player of the Week. He shared the honor with RJ Davis of North Carolina.
Watkins totaled his fourth career double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds to go along with four assists and four steals in Florida State's 77-71 win over No. 18 Colorado in the championship game of the Sunshine Slam. Just one day earlier, Watkins scored 19 points and added a career-high eight assists in Florida State's victory over UNLV. With his points and his assists, Watkins was responsible for 35 of Florida State's 83 points in its victory over the Runnin' Rebels.
In three victories in the Sunshine Slam, Watkins averaged 18.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and shot .700 from the field. He was named to the Sunshine Slam All-Tournament team along with teammate Jalen Warley. Florida State defeated Central Michigan (94-67, November 13), UNLV (83-75, November 20) and Colorado (77-71 in overtime, November 21) to finish undefeated and win the tournament championship.
Watkins earned the fourth double-double of his career – and first against a nationally ranked opponent – in Florida State's victory over No. 18 Colorado. He tied his Florida State scoring-high with 19 points and tied his career-high with 11 rebounds in the win over the Buffaloes. He also pulled down 11 rebounds against Radford while at VCU on December 14, 2022.
Watkins has scored in double figures in each of the last four games and is averaging 17.3 points scored per game. He is shooting .585 from the field (24 of 41), is shooting .708 from the free throw line (17 of 24) and made his season-high of seven free throws against Florida in Gainesville. In his last four games, Watkins is averaging 2.3 steals per game (nine steals total) with four steals each in Florida State' victories over Central Michigan (November 13) and No. 18 Colorado (November 21).
Florida State plays host to Georgia in the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge on Wednesday at 9:15 p.m. The game marks the first meeting between the Seminoles and the Bulldogs since 1981.
