Hamilton Named An Honorary Deputy Sheriff by LCSO

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State Head Men's basketball Coach Leonard Hamilton, a pillar in the Tallahassee community since his arrival as the Seminoles' head coach in 2002, has been appointed an Honorary Deputy Sheriff by the Leon County Sheriff's Office. The Seminoles' all-time winningest coach accepted his symbolic appointment in a ceremony hosted by Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil.
Hamilton's role is honorary and has been bestowed upon the future Hall of Fame coach for his long time support of law enforcement and the Leon County Sheriff's Office. He has long been a Goodwill Ambassador and supporter of various important initiatives from the LCSO.
McNeil recognized Hamilton in a special ceremony at the Leon County Sheriff's Office on November 6, 2023.
"Coach Hamilton has been an excellent role model and inspiration to many in our community," said McNeil. "The LCSO is honored to have him accept the invitation to serve as an Honorary Deputy Sheriff for the Leon County Sheriff's Office, to be a Goodwill Ambassador to our community in support of the various initiatives of the LCSO."
Hamilton repeated the LCSO creed of honesty and integrity, accountability, teamwork, trust and respect, and commitment to excellence as he accepted his ceremonial badge from McNeil saying: "Our team stands for all of the incredibly important core values that the LCSO upholds on a daily basis.'
"I am humbled to be presented with this honor by Sheriff McNeil and the Leon County Sheriff's Office," said Hamilton. "I'm looking forward to wearing my new badge into practice today to see the reaction from my players. Each of the officers who wear the uniform of the LCSO are incredibly respected members of our community who protect the citizens of Leon County. We are all indebted to the men and women who serve our community."
