FSU Falls to No. 3 Gators

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – No. 3 Florida used a five-run eighth inning to beat Florida State, 9-5, Tuesday night at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles raced out to a 5-1 lead before the Gators scored the final eight runs of the contest.
Freshman pitcher Ben Barrett allowed just one run in a career-high 4.0 innings. The Noles scored two runs in the second inning against Tyler Nesbitt and added three more on Jaime Ferrer’s three-run double in the fourth.
Florida inched back into the game with one run in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings before scoring five in the eighth inning. FSU used eight pitchers in the game.

OF NOTE:
- Sophomore Jaime Ferrer made his 80th career start and 1st in left field. Treyton Rank made his 40th career start and 1st in right field. Rank has now started at first, second and third base; shortstop; and all three outfield positions in his career.
- Ferrer’s three-run double in the fourth inning extended his career-long hitting streak to 12 games.
- James Tibbs was 2-for-3 with two walks, extending his on-base streak to a season-high 14 games. He has reached safely in 63 of his 66 career starts. His 21 walks are 14 more than the next closest Seminole.
- Freshman Ben Barrett made his second career start, pitching a career-high 4.0 innings and allowing just one run. He lowered his season ERA to 2.79.
- Freshman DeAmez Ross walked to load the bases in the fourth inning – he has reached safely in all eight career games. Freshman Cam Smith had three hits – including his third double of the year – to tie a career high.
- Jordan Carrion singled twice and dropped down a sacrifice bunt. The former Gator is now 5-for-13 in his career against his former team.
- Nander De Sedas hit an RBI double to get FSU on the board and was hit by a pitch for the fourth time, tied with Colton Vincent for the team high.
